Ken Waigand, a long time resident of Salt Lake City, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2020. \r\n\r\nBorn in 1941 in Pittsburgh, Pa., Ken was the son of Cornelius E. Waigand and Margaret Rogers Waigand. After graduating from Morris Harvey College in West Virginia, Ken went to work for the Department of Navy as a financial analyst in the Aircraft Carrier Program. Ken took early retirement from the Navy and moved from Alexandria, Virginia to Salt Lake City. He skied Alta and its backcountry every day he could with frenetic energy and enthusiasm. Ken was always exploring his passions. And through the years was an EMT, a diver and scuba instructor, a tai chi student and a fine cooking connoisseur. He was a pizza making expert hosting parties where he turned out fantastic pizza made from a recipe he collected in Italy. \r\n\r\nMost of all Ken loved to travel the globe on his motorcycle collecting friends and adventures. He traveled through Europe, Africa, China, Southeast Asia and South America. Ken lived life fully both here in Salt Lake City and on his many global journeys. \r\n\r\nKen is survived by his brother Neil Waigand (Nevada) and sister Linda Waigand (California). \r\n\r\nThe family would like to express their gratitude to all the staff of Huntsman Cancer Institute who provided care and comfort to Ken in the final stretch. Also, in these times we were fortunate to be able to share with Ken the well wishes and love sent by his many friends through the Caring Bridge site. \r\n\r\nWhen we can all travel and gather safely, we hope to plan a pizza party as a remembrance where we can share stories of Ken's energy, his travels and his love for adventure.
