Mary Jean Whiting Oleen, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep in her home in West Jordan, Utah on July 23rd. Mary was born on March 12, 1921 in Marysvale, Utah, to Daniel and Lenora Whiting. The seventh of nine children, Mary grew up surrounded by friends and family, with her two younger siblings, Etta and Carl, usually by her side.\nMary married the love of her life, Robert Russell Oleen, Oct 4th, 1941.\n\nThroughout her life, Mary was always surrounded by friends. Whether it was a family deer camp in the Bookcliffs, the Eagles Lodge in Midvale or her Monday night bowling league with the girls, Mary thoroughly enjoyed the company of others. There wasn’t a day in her life that Mary wasn’t happy. She was always good for a laugh and up for a good time.\n\nShe is preceded in death by her husband Robert Russell Oleen, son, Alan Whiting Oleen, older sisters Irene Nickel and Ellen Mounteer, brothers: Ray, Wayne, Paul and Hewitt Whiting, and parents. Mary is survived by her daughter Dixilee Martindale, son, Russell Oleen (Christine), daughter-in-law Marsha Oleen, 13 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 5 great, great grandchildren.\n\nSpecial thanks to Sunbrook Hospice, Bishop Bullough and close neighbors who helped with her care and in and around her home.\n\nFuneral services will be held Wednesday, July 27th at 12:00 noon at the Prairie Stake Center, 5360 W. 7000 S. West Jordan, UT. viewings will be held Tuesday from 6-8 pm at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W South Jordan Parkway (10400 So.), South Jordan UT. and Wednesday from 11:00 – 11:45 am prior to services at the church.
