Obituary for Cleta Marianne Johnson Fisher

The clock of life is wound but once,
And no man has the power
To know just when the hands will stop,
At late, or early hour.

Dear loved ones everywhere!

As my blind eyes now close on mortality, my spiritual eyes now open on eternity, and as I now step across life’s threshold from one sphere into another, i.e. mortality into immortality, I wish to leave my humble, yet most fervent public testimony that I am so grateful to belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I am so grateful that just as we have earthly parents, so do we have heavenly parents—parents who love us each and every one, beyond all comprehension.

As I now go forth into yonder realms, I leave behind exceeding love to all of you who have in one way or another touched my life through the years. Each of you, with your unique personal influence, has contributed greatly to making me the person I am. The fragrance of your influence on my heart and soul has left the perfume of everlasting and unforgettable love. Thank you each and every one for adding a new dimension to my mortal life. I also express gratitude to my wonderful faithful German Shepherd guide and seeing-eye dogs (ten in all) for guarding and guiding me well and keeping me safe through the years. They were all wonderful service dogs as well as companions.

Music has been such an important part of my life, especially singing and speaking on innumerable occasions. Through the years, my calendar has been full. I have shared my talents whenever and wherever I had the opportunity. I feel I will not have to apologize to the Lord for being selfish with the wonderful gifts He has given me. How very blessed I have been!

Throughout my life, the happiest I have been is when I have been doing church service in whatever capacity. I have served two stake missions, and through the years I have been diligent in doing my visiting teaching. I have served as ward and temple organist both in Salt Lake and Jordan River temples, teaching the children, primary music leader, teaching gospel doctrine, Sunday School teacher, serving in the Relief Society Presidency, ward choir conductor, and of filling innumerable singing and speaking assignments. At one time, I had the privilege of teaching in the Cambodian branch. Singing and traveling with our beloved Tabernacle Choir for nearly 18 years was exhilarating. Later, singing with my wonderful Sterling Singers choir was both thrilling and awesome. For several years I participated as a soprano soloist in the annual production of the Messiah. I had the special blessing and privilege of being author/composer to Hymn #277, “As I Search the Holy Scriptures,” in the LDS hymnal, and for years I have been engaged in doing family history research and giving temple service in behalf of those on the other side of the veil.

I am a graduate of Ogden High School, Brigham Young University and twice from the University of Utah. I have held numerous certificates and licenses, one of which is my General Class ham radio license, K9TLC. I have always been employed, never finding it difficult to find work. Work is a blessing!

My life has been filled with music. Now, I shall joyously be singing with the choirs of God, and I shall be looking forward to meeting each of you, as one by one in turn, you too shall join this exquisite heavenly choir, God’s choir!

I wish to thank all you wonderful earthly angels who have helped me through the years, especially given me love and support through my various illnesses. May each of you in your time of need be given the much needed help as you have so generously given to me. God bless you all!

I am survived by two stepsisters: Barbara Risbon of Vernal, and Yasman (Deven) Taylor of Roy, Utah, plus five first cousins and a wider circle of cousins branching out. I am also survived by my two wonderful cats, Big J.C. Kitty and little Lady Sariah whom I love dearly.
