“Together Again”

Joyce Judkins Parkin left her mortal life on March 3, 2018, in St. George, Utah. She was reunited her with eternal companion, Thomas Albert Parkin, after twenty years. Joyce was born on October 8, 1932 in Murray, Utah, to Wilford Newell and Sarah Blanch Judkins. Joyce was sealed to her parents on September 24, 1958, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Joyce was baptized a member of the LDS Church on January 4, 1941 and confirmed the next day.

She graduated from Murray High School, where she participated in the band. She played the drums and the flute and served as the band secretary for three years.

Joyce and Tom met when she was fifteen years old at a church swim party. She had just moved in two blocks south of Tom’s house in Murray. They began walking to and from school together. They would often stop at a hamburger place along the way and buy green pineapple shakes. After graduation, Joyce got a job at ZCMI in the tea room. One night in early Fall, Tom picked her up from work and while in the car, asked her to marry him. They were married on February 6, 1951 and sealed in the Logan LDS Temple on July 7, 1952. The Army National Guard took them to Kansas and Wyoming. After 21 months, they returned home to Utah. Joyce and Tom were blessed with two children, Tracy and Neal.

Joyce was a homemaker and enjoyed creating. She started sewing at a young age. She loved to embroider, crochet and knit. She always working on a project, usually baby booties, wash clothes, or pot holders to give to others. She also loved to read. If she wasn’t knitting, she was reading. Joyce loved animals and always had dogs from the time they got out of the service. Joyce and Tom moved to St. George, Utah after retirement and work at Bert Murdock Music part time. She learned how to play the piano.

Joyce was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and serviced in many callings throughout her life, including Sunday School teacher, Mutual teacher, Primary teacher, Work Day leader, Primary secretary, Relief Society Presidency, and many years as a service missionary at the Family History Center in St. George, Utah.

She was welcomed home by her husband, parents, brothers, Newell (Myreta) and Lynn (MaryBelle) Judkins and sisters, Julia Judkins, Alta (Albert) Bailey and Nina (Robert) Despain. She will be greatly missed by her children, Tracy (Marv) Pate and Neal (Joy) Parkin, her seven grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
