Obituary for Marilyn Hawkins Hansen

1928 ~ 2018

On April 2, 2018, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Marilyn Hawkins Hansen, peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father and to her loved ones who have previously passed away, including a sister she never met.
Marilyn was born on July 8, 1928 to Clarence James Hawkins and Josephine Groo Davis in Salt Lake City, Utah. She had a wonderful childhood with four older brothers doting on her and spending summers at a cabin in Provo Canyon. Her father was a band leader and she learned her love of music from him. She played the piano, violin, and clarinet and worked at a music store. Marilyn attended East High School and graduated from the University of Utah in Elementary Education. Soon after graduation, she met the love of her life, Clyde Wayne Hansen, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on February 1, 1951. They were blessed with six children: Maureena (Alan) Broadbent, Leon (Cindy) Hansen, Marba (Jay) Porter, Alma (Karen) Hansen, Lucinda (Brent) Milne, Kristina “Tina” (John) Ek; 37 grandchildren, and 109 great-grandchildren and counting!
Marilyn loved being a mother and her family was her joy and her life. She was without guile and the sweetest person you could ever know. She was a wonderful example of Christlike service and love and her service extended far beyond her family. She served faithfully in many callings, including Relief Society President. Marilyn served in the Jordan River Temple for 10 years. She and Wayne served a full-time mission to Coral Springs, Florida. Her posterity knows she loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, and they cherish her memory. She is survived by her loving husband and their numerous posterity.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, April 7, 2018, in the LDS church on 7500 South 700 East, Midvale, Utah, with a viewing from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the same location. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Share condolences at www.jenkins-soffe.com.
