Obituary for Glenda Rae Swanson Stroud

1939 ~ 2018

Glenda Rae Swanson Stroud passed away at her home in Salt Lake City on April 30. She was 78.

Rae was born on June 18, 1939 to Denzil and Donna (nee Ferguson) Swanson, the first of their four children. Rae spent her youth running around her grandparents’ farm in Murray; fishing in Island Park with her brother, Dave; playing softball; and helping to raise her younger sisters, Karen and Teri. She graduated from Granite High School in 1957 and married Stanley Stroud in 1966. Together they raised their sons, Shane and Steven, and remained married for 41 years until Stanley’s death in 2007.

She is survived by her sons, Shane (Dean Mellott) and Steven (Kathy); sisters, Karen (Mark) Jackson and Teri (Paul) Ross; sister-in-law, Sharon Stephenson; other mother, Patricia Swanson; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Rae’s legacy is one of pure love. She fiercely and unconditionally loved her family, friends, and dogs, Jack and Sadie. Even with her own challenges, she was always there to lend an ear, to share her shoulder to cry on, or to thoughtfully gift us with a quick-witted bit of sarcasm or wisdom. Her hand print of love on our hearts will always be with us as we celebrate and share it with others. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Rae will be laid to rest next to her mother, Donna, at Murray City Cemetery. Per her wishes there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Rae’s name to the Humane Society of Utah or, better yet, rescue a dog that needs a good home.
