Obituary for John "Jack" McLelland

John David “Jack” McLelland passed away peacefully on June 1, 2018 at his Draper home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Salt Lake City, Jack spent two years of his childhood in San Francisco and the remaining years in the Greater Salt Lake area. He met the love of his life, ReNee Boyack; in the winter of 1949 on a bus bound for a West High School basketball game. They were married a year later in 1950 and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, after Jack converted to the LDS church. Settling in Glendale Park they raised four daughters and a son. They started out their marriage with literally nothing, but through hard work, faith and commitment they were able to lead a wonderful and prosperous life together. Being married young they didn’t wait to start a family. Jack took it upon himself to work as many as three jobs at once without ever complaining. While achieving great success in business early in his professional life, Jack was encouraged with the support of his family to successfully launch a landscape and building management company which he ran until his retirement. One of Jack’s favorite hobbies was fishing in the Teton River and the Upper Provo River. Jack had an incredible sense of humor that made people laugh and brightened their day. Jack was involved in many church leadership service projects. While he never turned down the request for service to others, he often provided service anonymously, not wishing to seek credit from others. He was always proud to help the homeless and those less fortunate in need. His most recent calling was serving with wife ReNee at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building for ten years. He is survived by his wife ReNee McLelland; and his five children who love him greatly: Jaclynn (Ron) Vines, John (Ruthanne) McLelland, Jeralynn (Newell) Rollins, Janalynn (George) Young, Jeana (Peter) Hart, along with 28 grandchildren, and 38 great grandchildren who lovingly called him Poppy. He is preceded in death by parents, sister Joyce, sister Gail, brother George, and grandson Robert J. Kaas. The viewing will be held on June 8, 2018 from 6-8 PM at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 S), South Jordan, Utah 84095. The funeral will be held on June 9th at 11 AM, with a viewing prior to the funeral proceedings from 9:30-10:30 AM at 13366 South 1300 East, Draper, Utah 84020. Dedication of grave: Lehi City Cemetery.
