Obituary for Kathleen (Kay) King Weiss

Beloved wife and mother, Kathleen (Kay) King Weiss, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in the early hours of the morning July 28, 2018 at the age of 90. Kathleen was born June 17, 1928 in Roberts, Idaho to George Ross King and Sarah Virginia (Jones) King, moving to Salt Lake City in 1936. In 1944 Kathleen married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Siegfried (Sieg) A. Weiss. A dedicated homemaker in her early years, Kathleen went back to school after her children were grown, graduating from Salt Lake College of Medical and Dental Assistants at age of 49. She remained with the college as an instructor until 1993 after 15 years of doing what she loved. After retirement, Kathleen volunteered for AARP and other organizations focused on aging and healthcare. Kathleen had a passion for learning and research and took a special interest in genealogy. Proud of her heritage, Kathleen was thrilled when she was officially accepted into the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) after documenting five ancestors that fought in the Revolutionary war. Kathleen was an honorable keeper of family history, documents and stories. Kathleen loved to sing, dance, read, write, garden, do astrology, play her organ, have a good conversation over a cup of coffee, and travel near and far with her adored husband, especially long road trips that they both enjoyed very much. Most of all Kathleen loved her family and was very proud of the people they are and their many accomplishments.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, Siegfried, who passed away July 16, 2013. She is survived by her four children: Linda (Kucera), Marc, Marie (Weiss Rich), and Christina (Weiss Karren); eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Kathleen’s family also wishes to acknowledge Beehive Senior Care, specifically Shelly VanWinkle and Ane Tuakalau, who helped care for Kathleen after her stroke in 2016 and helped make her peaceful death at home possible. We also want to give a special thanks to Kathleen’s daughter, and our sister, Christina Weiss Karren, who gave up so much these past two years to serve as our mother’s primary caregiver. We love and thank you.
Kathleen requested a very small, quiet, and peaceful graveside service without any fuss or fanfare which was respectfully and lovingly held at Elysian Gardens on Wednesday,
August 1, 2018.
