Ruth was born on September 20, 1936 in Los Angeles County, Bellflower City, California to parents Alva and Emily Buckley. Ruth was the seventh of eight children, Charlie, Clarabelle, Allen, Thelma, Lee Roy, J. C. and Veda. Ruth was an outgoing child with a very strong will, who enjoyed a challenge. Ruth always admitted that she was a challenge for her parents. Ruth always loved to be the center of attention, loved life and was unfiltered when it came to her opinion.
Ruth married in August 1953 to Dean Staton and had a baby girl, “Deana” nine months later in May of 1954. Ruth had a baby boy, “Donald” on February of 1962, becoming the proud mother of two children.
Ruth waitressed most of her adult life, working hard to help support her family. She was a member of T.O.P.S. and became the president of the group in 1969. In 1973 Ruth was Chairman of the Workman P.T.A. and received a Service Committee award 1976. Ruth finished her work with the P.T.A. in 1983 just after her son, Donald became a Los Angeles Deputy Sheriff.
Ruth lived in Southern California for 73 years when she made the move to Utah to live with her daughter, Deana.
Ruth was 83 when she passed away at home with family and friends, she will be greatly missed.
Ruth is survived by her brother J.C. Buckley, daughter Deana Miller, son-in-law Timothy Miller, son Donald Hodges, daughter-in-law Mariann Hodges, granddaughter Summer Benware, grandson Jason Hodges, grandson Nick Hodges, granddaughter Heather Snyder, granddaughter Angela Macias, granddaughter Keighly Garcia, great granddaughter Emma Beal, great grandson Chase Abernathy and great granddaughter Skyla Benware.
Ruth has joined her relatives in heaven including her granddaughter Brandy Abernathy.
Funeral service for Ruth will be held Monday, June 22, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Chapel with a viewing from 1:00-2:45 pm prior to the service. Funeral services will be webcast so all can participate. The link will be here at the top of the obituary about 10 minutes before the service is to begin.
