“Opa”\r\n\r\nWerner "Vern" Thiemig peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family on August 21, 2017. Werner was born on April 9, 1938 in Hanover, Germany to Max and Hildegard Thiemig. He graduated high school in Hanover, Germany and then immigrated to the United States in 1956.\r\nWerner joined the US Army in Utah in Oct. 1959 and honorably served three years active duty in Germany before returning to Salt Lake City, where he lived out the rest of his days enjoying many interesting adventures and living his life to its fullest. \r\nWerner retired from Alliant Techsystems (Hercules Powder-ATK Global) after 31 years and also earned a retirement from the Utah Auto Auction in 2012. In his spare time, Werner was an avid coin collector and became interested in fractional paper currency later on. He was active with the Utah Numismatic Society for many years.\r\nWerner was preceded in death by his father, Max; mother, Hildegard; and brother, H.J. Achim Rischmuller (all in Germany); and Irene Thiemig. He is survived by his children: Andrew Williams, Michael (Cami) Thiemig, Jeffrey Thiemig, Justin Thiemig, Jenny Hewitt; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. “Opa” “Vern” Werner Thiemig will also be missed and fondly remembered by many friends and extended family as well.\r\nA viewing will be held Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 1:00-1:45 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray, Utah with funeral services following at 2:00 p.m. \r\nOnline condolences may be shared at www.jenkins-soffe.com.
